Our Story

The Lennox-Inglewood Tenants Union [LITU] is a grassroots community activist organization dedicated to fighting for the rights of renters in the cities of Lennox and Inglewood.  We work to assist individual renters, as well as groups of tenants in apartment complexes, who are facing improper evictions, unlawful rent increases, landlords who refuse to do necessary repairs, and the scourge of gentrification, which is driving long-term, working class renters out of our communities.  Membership in the LITU is open to anyone is not in full control of their living situation, including people who live in hotels, mobile homes, houseless individuals and rooming houses.

At this time in particular, when many of us have lost, or may lose our jobs, or can’t work because we or a family member are sick or because we have a child at home as the result of of school closures, it is important for each of us to be informed of our rights.  And as is often the case, we can better protect our rights as part of a group all fighting for the same thing, as opposed to just individuals.

LITU works to inform our fellow tenants of our rights and, when necessary, engages in actions to protect and expand those rights.  Such actions might, depending on the circumstances, include a petition, letter writing or call-in campaign; appearing and testifying before governmental bodies such as the city council or county board of supervisors; and demonstrating against landlords who try to take away our rights or elected officials who act against our interests. .
